We’re Coming to AVHSD Back to School Night!!

We want to meet the families of the three high schools where we will be training, get to know our students and families, and prepare you for the upcoming Black Family University Stage 1 program, which will be held at Antelope Valley High School, Lancaster High School, and Eastside High School.

The program is free for all families, but space is limited to just 30 attendees at each school. To register your interest in joining this program, please complete the form linked below.

BFU Stage 1: Building the Black Family Foundation is a parent and family training program that covers the fundamentals of student advocacy, financial literacy, healing emotional trauma, self-care, Black history, IEPs, navigating the school system, and setting S.M.A.R.T. goals.

Each of the 10 sessions includes free food, resources, a prize raffle, and take-home materials. All registered attendees will also receive a BFU T-shirt.

The program culminates with an on-stage graduation celebrating the commitment and accomplishments of participating families. The most committed and engaged parents will also have the opportunity to be selected as BFU Ambassadors.

Stage 1 Session 1

Overview of parenting through a cultural lens, highlighting Black history, identity, and educational empowerment.

The following titles are the topics for ten sessions: Introduction, The Relationship, Parent Rights, Empowered Parental Involvement, Goal Setting and Excellence, Practical Learning, Emotional Management, Out-Of-School Learning, Parenting Your Graduate, Resources and You. Parents will learn how this training is essential to their success as an informed parent, why blackness is not a handicap but a strength and how Black history has shaped the world we live in today.
